Pre-Injection 700 championship leader Will Bryant increased his points lead over his nearest rival to 47-points, but experienced what he called ‘one of the most stressful weekends I’ve ever had’, despite taking a victory and two second places.
Following an engine rebuild in the week prior to round three at Snetterton, the Bauromat backed rider failed to get any significant Friday practice as a number of gremlins still remained.
This forced Bryant into a last minute purchase of another engine from a local supplier, arriving just in time for Saturday morning practice.
“It was just a bog standard engine from a road bike that I found on eBay. More than anything I wanted to get out there as its a long way to travel,” he said.
“I didn’t expect to be able to race so to be able to set competitive times was a bonus”.
With a new engine bolted on to his Bauromat Honda CBR 600, Bryant narrowly took pole in a qualifying session he admits was also a necessary practice.
Bryant couldn’t quite convert his pole into a win for race one having to settle for second, a result of which was a combination of Snetterton’s long straights and his last minute purchase not quite having the power to compete for the duration.
What he lacked on the straights, Bryant made up through the twisty sections of the Norfolk circuit though, his Bauromat Honda CBR 600 seemingly more nimble than its rivals, allowing him to take his fifth win of the season in race two.
Another second in the final race of meeting allowed Bryant to extend his championship lead, despite his initial engine gripes.
“I’ll probably keep this one [the purchased engine] as a spare and either strip down and rebuild my initial engine or get another”.
Bryant now heads to Pembrey in early July as he looks to bounce back with a competitive bike, race winning engine and generally, a less stressful weekend.
