What is Robotic Machining?

Machining is the process in which raw material is cut into a preferred shape or final product. Using a combination of drilling, tapping and cutting to name a few processes, machining can be used on a variety of materials, from metals of all types to woods, plastics, ceramics and composites. Automated machining has a huge advantage over manual methods as there is a guaranteed increase in accuracy as well as consistency and time. 

 

Using CNC software, the robot will be programmed to understand the size and location of the raw material in its environment and can therefore begin the machining process with no delay. The benefit of flexible automation also means that multiple machining techniques can be used within the same system, once one process, drilling for instance is complete, the robot can change its end of arm tool to another method, and continue on with the entire cycle

    Depending on the size and scale of the material being cut ultimately decides what robot to use. Typically you should consider a mid-sized industrial robot, although this can be discussed with your robotic solutions provider.

    Like all processes, industrial robots help improve the quality, efficiency and consistency of your machining process.

    Like all industrial robots, on average they should last around 15 years. however, this does depend on things such as the availability of spare components, software updates and the working environment.
