Bryant Dominates in Season Opener, Takes Championship Lead

Bauromat backed motorcycle rider Will Bryant took an early championship lead with two wins and a second place in the season opener at Anglesey last weekend, laying down an early season statement of intent.

The Shrewsbury rider, who is sponsored for the season by Bauromat, had qualified second in class in the warm Saturday sun, but due to the combination of classes sharing the same grid, started race one from sixth.

Despite a below par start in which he lost several places, Bryant soon recovered with a series of passes through the twists of the Anglesey circuit to bring him back into contention.

Sitting on the tail of first as they began the final lap, it looked as though second would be an ample start to the three-race weekend, but the top step of the podium was soon Bryant’s. The leader, perhaps too focused on looking behind him, tangled with the rider of another class ahead, gifting Bryant the first win of his season on his Bauromat Honda CBR 600.

Bryant left Saturday with maximum points, looking to continue that from into the 2 races on Sunday. But with the weather taking a turn, and the conditions far trickier, he still had it all to do.

“Sunday couldn’t have been more different” Bryant said.

“With the additional practice session in the morning, it allowed me to get used to the conditions and the changes that I had made on the bike for the conditions”.

The testing clearly made a difference, with the 26-year-old cruising to an unchallenged victory, some 19 seconds ahead of his closest rival in second and taking maximum points from 2018’s first two races.

Bryant couldn’t quite take a clean sweep of the weekend though, despite once again starting on pole in class.

“I got swamped in the first corner, dropping to second and then drivers from the other classes between me and the leader” Bryant added.

First place remained narrowly out of his grasp as the laps slowly ticked down, and Bryant ended the season opener with a second place, adding to his earlier victories.

Bryant leaves Anglesey top of the Pre-Injection 700 championship with a haul of 70 points from a possible 75, fastest laps in all 3 races and 21 points clear of his closest competitor.

With only 2-weeks until the next round of the championship, this time taking place at Lincolnshire’s  Cadwell Park, all eyes will once again be on the Bauromat Honda CBR 600 and Will Bryant as he continues to impress in 2018.
